Mobbin Racing’s Michael Isom Podiums at 50th Anniversary Mint 400

Mobbin Racing’s Best in the Desert Mint 400 Race Report

St. George, UT (3/10/2018) – Michael Isom teamed up with Dr. Michael Buffington and finished third in the 50th Anniversary Mint 400 in Las Vegas, NV. The team drove a Can-Am Maverick X3 in the Unlimited Class in what was the second round of 2018 UTV competition for the Best in the Desert Series.

With one of the largest entry lists on record and a course that was universally dubbed the roughest in the prestigious event’s history, Isom got a good start and had few issues during the run. After the first lap, the team made some suspension adjustments to cope with the whooped out course and they got faster on the second and third laps.

“The car ran extremely well, and the course was exceptionally rough,” said Isom. “The whoops were just massive and the adjustments we made helped a ton. On the final lap, the Trophy Trucks were coming up on us. That lit a fire under us to go a little faster and that was nice. It was a fun race.”

Buffington had competed with Isom in two races last season, including the Mint 400. He enjoys racing, but more importantly, he enjoys spending time with Isom.

“It was good to be back with a more experience under my belt,” said Buffington. “I love racing and I love being out here, but with a friend like Michael it always makes me want to suit up and come out. Even compared to last year, this event stepped it up further. The vehicle count was up and I could see the spectator count was higher, even out on the course. It was amazing to see all the people out there cheering us on.”

Isom will return to Best in the Desert action when the series heads to Laughlin, NV April 6-7 for the UTV World Championship.
