Michael Isom Finishes Third in BITD Silver State 300

Mobbin Racing’s UTV Unlimited Race Report

St. George, UT (5/6/2018) – Can-Am / Mobbin Racing’s Michael Isom was charging hard and overcame a belt problem to finish third in the UTV Unlimited Class in the Silver State 300 Best in the Desert Series race

Isom again teamed up with his crew chief James Konces for the event. They were charging hard at the start and building a nice lead when they had to change a belt. Quick work by Konces got them back on track quickly and they finished third.

“We were going for it,” said Isom. “We had a good lead, we were pushing it hard and then we broke the belt. We’re going to take this third place with double points in this event and we’ll regroup. We’re going to come in strong to Vegas to Reno.”

Isom welcomed two new sponsors for the event: BFGoodrich Tires and Raceline wheels. Combined with his competitive Lonestar-built Can-Am and Fox shocks, Isom said the car was super fast in what is likely the fastest course on the tour.

“The Can-Am is an amazing car,” said Isom. “It’s so fast and the Lonestar build is great. Wayne from Alltech spent some time with me before the race and the car handled great. The BFGoodrich Tires and Raceline wheels were amazing. I was really happy with them.”

Konces made a bold statement about the BFGoodrich Tires: “The BFGoodrich Tires are the best tires I’ve had on a racecar.”

Isom was happy to have Konces on board when the belt problem arose. Having someone of his skill level in the right seat, gave Isom the confidence to drive the car as hard as he could.

“James preps the car, and he co-drives,” said Isom. “If anything comes up, he hops out and gets right to it. That’s a huge confidence booster for our team.”

Though he didn’t record the finish he wanted, Isom was happy overall with the weekend. Most of all, he had fun.

“I loved this racecourse,” said Isom. “I had no previous experience with silt like this and it was full on mashing the gas to get through. The overall race was an absolute blast. We laughed and smiled and had an amazing time.”

Isom will return to Best in the Desert action when the series heads into its longest event of the year at Vegas to Reno. That race is scheduled for August 15-18.
