Michael Isom Endures and Finishes Second in UTV World Championship
Mobbin Racing’s UTV Unlimited Race Report
St. George, UT (4/10/2018) – Can-Am’s Michael Isom teamed up with his new crew chief James Konces and finished second in the UTV Unlimited class during the Best in the Desert Series UTV World Championship. The race was held in the desert outside Laughlin, NV.
Isom was looking to repeat the victory he grabbed in last year’s race, but a throttle issue slowed his charge and he finished second. Though he was in the hunt for the win, Isom was pleased with the runner-up effort, especially considering the roughness of the course and the large entry list.
“We were definitely going for the win, but we had a throttle issue that held us back,” explained Isom. “We definitely persevered and held on for another podium. We’ll get things cleaned up and be ready for the Silver State 300.”
Isom used Liqui Moly shock oil and had the perfect setup on his Can-Am Maverick X3’s suspension for the event. That was key because several races were run prior to the nine-lap desert race, and the course was tough.
“The Can-Am is an amazing machine,” said Isom. “It was super fast all day. Liqui Moly hooked us up with shock oil for this race and Wayne at Alltech did the internals for us. It proved to be a good combination because it was super rough.”
Most off all, Isom had fun. Though a competitive racer at hand, Isom was pleased to be back in the driver’s seat, having a good time.
“This race, more than any others, I was more present and I had fun,” said Isom. “I enjoyed the lead up, I enjoyed the preparation, and I enjoyed the racing.”
Isom will return to Best in the Desert action when the series heads to Alamo, NV for the Silver State 300. That race is scheduled for May 3-6.
