Mobbin Racing’s Michael Isom Kicks off 2019 BITD Series with Win
Mobbin Racing’s Best in the Desert UTV Unlimited Race Report
St. George, UT (1/13/2019) – Mobbin Racing’s Michael Isom teamed up with co-driver James Konces and finished first in the Unlimited Class during the Parker 250 Best in the Desert Series race. The duo were driving a Can-Am X3 in what was the season opener for the series.
After starting fifth, Isom and Konces made up four positions to take the lead just 27 miles into the 250-mile race through the desert outside Parker, AZ. Just after the start of the second lap, they pitted and their team made quick repairs after a rock split open a CV boot. From there, they ran a trouble-free race to score the victory.
“I had a lot of confidence coming into this race,” said Isom. “By the time we hit the alternate pit at mile marker 27, we had passed the other four cars in front of us and held the lead until the finish. We had only minor issues and it felt really good to start off the season with a win.”
Isom quickly credited his professional crew for their quick work during the race. While many other cars suffered axle failures, Isom’s Can-Am held strong until the finish.
“The story for this race was our pit crew,” said Isom. “When we came in, the CV joint had lost all of its grease and was nearly on fire. They got things changed out quickly and that ensured us the win.”
That Can-Am, which has served the team well for two seasons, has a “For Sale” sign on it now. The team is taking delivery of a new X3 built by defending BITD Champion Phil Blurton’s No Limit shop.
“Can-Am has come on strong for us this year and we’re excited about the whole racing program this year,” said Isom. “We signed a nice contract with BFGoodrich Tires for 2019, and they will join Can-Am and Liqui Moly this year. VisionX stepped up for us this year too. James Konces will be in the car with me for the rest of the season. We have developed a good relationship in and out of the car.”
Isom and Konces will be ready to get their new Can-Am X3 dirty as the Best in the Desert Series next heads to Jean, NV for the Mint 400 March 6-10.
